Trivandrum Hotels Kerala India

It is one of the greenest cities in India with wide roads, multi storied office buildings and white colonial buildings. But, no skyscrapers, no fast cars racing down the roads, no hip hop night clubs.

The city is on seven low hills, only a couple of kilometers inland from the Arabian Sea. It is an easy going city. The city has enough of interest to fill a day away from the sands of nearby Kovalam.

The oldest and most interesting part of town is the fort area in the south. The Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple and Puttan Malika Palace are here.

Sri Chitra Art Gallery and Napier Museum showcase painting crafts and sculpture.

Trivandrum hotels are functional and pleasant. Visitors usually do not spend night in the city. There are dozens of options within ten minutes walk north of the railway and bus stations, in Thampanoor.

Hotels in Kovalam and Around

Kerala's most famous tourist attraction, perhaps India's most famous beach. It is close to the Trivandrum, reaching Kovalam is never difficult.

Kovalam offers accommodation in all categories. All budgets are accommodated. Rates fluctuate between seasons. Whatever your budget, it's worth trying to bargain down the quoted price, especially for stays of a week or longer. Ignore offers of rooms in the street.

A few other places around Kovalam are considered as part of Kovalam tourist destination. Pozhikkara Beach lies north of Kovalm. Nellikunnu , Pulinkudi, Chowara and Poovar are the golden sand beaches that stretch towards the south of Kovalam.

The south of Kovalam has dozens of luxury resorts, ayurveda spas and guesthouses.

Varkala Hotels Kerala India

Varkala offers a wide selection of accommodations. The hotels up on the North Cliff are most people's first choice. They give more inspiring views than those lining the road to the beach. There are even better options on the quieter South Cliff.

Kollam (Quilon) Hotels Kerala India

Sandwiched between the sea and Ashtamudi lake, Kollam was the focal point of the Malabar's spice trade for centuries

Kollam has many excellent resorts and hotels. The prices are much competitive compared to the Alleppey and Kovalam.

Hotels in Alappuzha (Alleppey) and Around

Alleppey once ranked among the wealthiest ports along the Malabar coast. With its trading history and interconnecting canals, tourist literature is fond of referring to alleppey as the Venice of the East. Don not expect too much of a resemblance.

The choice of places in the town centre is fairly uninspiring. There are some great possibilities in all brackets if you are willing to travel to the outskirts and pay a little more.

In the suburbs of Thathampally and Punnamada there are luxurious resorts with Kerala wooden houses.

Further, the backwaters also has plenty of enjoyable homestays.

Mararikulam (Marari) Hotels Kerala India

Mararikulam is towards the north of Alleppey. Its a fishing village with its adjacent beach, lie under the palm trees to the west of National Highway -47 and the railway line.

The tourism development between Alleppey and Cochin is focused primarily on the this village. Locals out numbers visitors along this peaceful stretch of coast.

Marari's resorts and homestays offer tempting choices. You can expect generally high tariff.

Muhamma Hotels Kerala India

Some of Kerala's best resorts are on the western shores of Vembanad Lake. A vast lagoon of 200 square kilometre expanse. The lake reaches its widest point at the village of Muhamma.

You can reach there from NH-47. There are ferries run hourly across the lake towards the eastern banks of Kumarakom. Accommodation around Muhamma is exclusively upscale and expensive.

They are more formal than the homestays around Alleppey.

Kottayam Hotels Kerala India

Kottayam lies midway between the coast and the mountains. For visitors, it is a stopover on the long journey to and from the mountains. It is a springboard for nearby Kumarakom and Vembanad lake.

Accommodation in Kottayam is limited for a town of its size. The travellers who do pause here choose one of the resorts or homestays in the surrounding area like Kumarakom or Aymenem.

Still a few good hotels are there in the town centre for a night.

Kumarakom Hotels Kerala India

Kumarakom is 10 km west of Kottaym spread over a cluster of islands on Vembanad Lake. The place is surrounded by tropical waterways and low-lying paddy fields.

The backwater tourism boomed at Kumarakom due to its easy accessibility by the road from Kottayam. You can see the row of large luxury resorts lined up along the water's edge.

There are homestays in the backwaters and rubber plantations away from the lake side. The majority of them are Syrian Christian households.

Thekkady, through which one enters the Periyar Tiger Reserve, the largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. The sanctuary with an area of 777 square kilometers is surrounded by the Periyar reservoir over an area of 25 square kilometers.

The majority of its visitors come in the hope of seeing wild elephants and even a rare glimpse of a tiger. In the summer (March to May) the chances are high when you take boat safari through the lake.

The beds inside the sanctuary are in short supply and hence most visitors stay in nearby Kumily.

Kumily has accommodation to suit all pockets. Homestays offer good value in lower price brackets. In the higher end there are gorgeous colonial-era hideaways deep in the mountains.

You will need a car and driver to reach these less visited corners of the High Range.

Kochi and Ernakulam Hotels Kerala India

Fort Cochin with its un-congested back streets and charming colonial-era architecture , holds more appeal than the modern Ernakulum.

Dozens of old buildings turned over to heritage hotels and homestays . The rates are grossly inflated in the peak of the season.

Ernakulam lack the historic ambience. But this part of the city is more convenient for travel connections. Ernakulam offers lots of choice in all categories and far better value.

There are several luxury hotels on the islands of Willingdon and Bolghatty. New business class hotels are there at the airport in Nedumbassery in the out skirts of the city.

Cherai Hotels Kerala India

The closest beach to Kochi is 25km north of the city on Vypeen Island. A 3km strip of golden sand but nowhere the sand is more than a few meters wide. Even so, Cherai seems to be gaining popularity each year.

There are a few overpriced resorts and guesthouses that aims the foreign tourists who find there way up here from Fort Cochin.

Munnar Hotels Kerala India

Munnar's greenery and cool air attracts middle class visitors from all over India. Now-a-days foreign travellers are also stopping here for few days.

Munnar's accommodation costs significantly more than elsewhere in the High Range. Munnar has good hotels for all budgets. The tea plantations and cardamom growers offer several heritage homes and homestays. These properties overlook some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in India.

Since tourists stream into Munnar throughout the year, its advisable to reserve accommodation well in advance.

Kozhikod (Calicut)

This coastal city has very important place in Kerala history. It was close to here Vasco da Gama first set foot in India in 1498.

Hotel accommodation is available in all budgets in Calicut. This is one city where travellers on tighter budgets might be tempted to upgrade.

Wayanad

Wayanad is 70km inland from Calicut at the southern limit of Deccan plateau. Seven mountains encircle the district of Wayanad. Landscape varies from semi-tropical to misty tea and coffee plantations; from steep slopes that rise through dense forest to the grass lands in the mountain top. The altitude varies between 750m to 2100m. Even the base of the plateau is cooler than the plains.
