Kerala SariKerala Sari or the Kasavu Sari is the attire women showoff when any occasion calls for traditional dressing. But how old is this tradition. I am not sure. My grandmother used to dress somethign entirely different. She wore chatta and mundu, both in while. Chatta is a plan blouse and mundu is a plain piece of cloth normally worn double folded. This had been the tradition with the Syrian Christins. I am sure sari was not a popular dress 50 years ago. It must have been pretty uncommon 75 years ago and hardly seen a 100 years ago. Things change quickly. No teenager now thinks of the Panjabi dress as something that came to Kerala a few decades ago. For them it had always been there. Anyway, The Set Sari is normally in offwhite colour with splendid boarders in golden colour. This is called the Kasavu. Most of the time narrow stripped boarders of other colours go along with the Kasavu Boarder. Pretty inconvenient if you have a life that reqruies moving around and travelling, Sari has given way to Panjabi dress as the daily wear of the women in kerala. But when called for traditional dressing, it is the Kasavu Set what everyone have in mind. Tell me more about Sari. Have you ever worn one?
