Trivandrum International Airport is the first airport in the state of Kerala. Trivandrum is the gateway to Kerala, especially for the foreign tourists. It is the 8th busiest airport in India in terms of international passenger traffic. In terms overall passenger traffic it is the 10th busiest airport. History of the AirportTrivandrum airport was established in 1932. It was a part of Royal Flying Club under the blessing of Travancore Royal Family. The airport started its operation in 1935. In 1938 Royal Government of Travancore acquired a private aircraft for Maharaja. In the same year Royal Indian Air Force placed its 1st squadron for the protection of state from the ariel attacks. Domestic terminal - T1 has been constructed after independence. Then the airport was used for handling domestic flights. It is parallel to the Shanghumugham beach. The airport is just four km from the city centre. Kovalam beach is 16 km south of the airport. Technopark lies 10 km to the north. Terminals of Trivandrum International AirportAfter the construction of the new terminal, there are three terminals in the Trivandrum airport. Terminals 1 and 2 serve the domestic flights. The new terminal 3 serves international flights. The new international terminal is fully air-conditioned with Wi-Fi facility. It has spacious lounges, natural lighting and better conveyance facilities for the passengers. The airlines that operate domestic flights are Air India, Air India Express, Kingfisher Airlines, IndiGo and Jet Airways. InternationalTrivandrum airport has more international flights than domestic flights. Most of the international flights are from the Middle East cities. There are hundreds of thousands of Keralites working in the Gulf. Anyone who is coming from Europe and other places in North Atlantic region can reach Trivandrum in just one change over. Fly to any major city in the Middle East and from there you can catch a flight to Trivandrum. The Sri Lankan Airlines is flying from Colombo to Trivandrum. So any one coming from west or east, Colombo is a good connecting point. Another international city which is directly connected to Trivandrum is Singapore. Singapore is hub for the people from the South East, Far East, Australia, New Zealand and North Pacific to reach Kerala. The Middle East cities which has direct flight from Trivandrum are Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Salalah, Dammam and Riyadh.
