Varkala Accommodation - Budget
Tel: 0470 2602227
This former maharaja's holiday palace has been converted into government guesthouse, though it also opens to tourists. The two en-suite rooms in the original building are enormous and fantastic value. The others occupy a 1980s block in the same grounds and are much less inspiring - you'll need a good mosquito net, and expects lots of insects. They've had problems over the years with peeping toms and thieves, too. Basic meals available on request.
Tel: 0470 2606400
